 Mud  painting

Mud  painting

Our days are varied and fun. At St Luke's, children can choose to be indoors or out, and there will be plenty of play stations to choose from including; art table (cutting and sticking, colouring,  junk modelling etc), water and sand stations, role play and dressing up, loose parts, mud kitchen, cosy 'reading' corner, puzzles and games, circus skills, dressing up and role play, tricycles etc.

We follow the play work principles, which are closely in line with Forest School Principles and Practices. Children are free to choose their play and our staff are there to facilitate the play work principles.

As part of their play, children will also be able to access adult led activities. Adult led activities include; cooking, sculpture, painting, drama and team games.

On Tuesday and Thursday mornings we will go to Nightingale Valley Woods or Victory Park for our Forest School session and on Monday and Wednesday afternoons we will go the play area of the park.

What to wear/bring

It is really important that children come well prepared for the weather, especially when they are booked a Forest School day. Children must bring a spare change of clothes (including pants and socks), have a suitable, water proof, outdoor coat and a pair of wellies, which ever day there are attending.

For our Forest School sessions please make sure children have:

Wellington Boots (to change into) preferably knee high- children should arrive in trainers or closed shoes and NOT SANDALS (to protect those little toes during our activities) and have wellington boots to change into. Wellington boots often get wet, as the children LOVE to paddle in the brook, so it's a good idea if they have other shoes to change in to.

A waterproof jacket (with hood) and trousers (in case it rains) and warm jumper/fleece

Layers of clothes: including a long sleeved top and trousers/leggings (We don’t recommend jeans as these get cold and take ages to dry out, when wet). Even in the summer, long trousers help to protect from stinging plants and biting insects!

A spare change of clothes: to include socks and under clothes, a spare t-shirt, long sleeved top or jumper and trousers/leggings

If the weather is cold, a hat and gloves will be appreciated but obviously, this is seasonal

Please label your clothes and bags. We always end up with a big box of lost property.

food and drink

We’ll provide a tasty and healthy mid morning and afternoon snack (fruit and veg sticks, rice cakes, cheese, biscuit bars) but please make sure your child has a healthy packed lunch (please refer to our healthy food policy in the policies and procedures). We always provide plenty of drinking water. Please note we have no nuts policy.

Directions to our Holiday Club at St Luke's Scout Hut, Brookside Road, Brislington.

Please note that there is no parking on the narrow road, unless for disabled access so please avoid driving your car down. We advise you to park on Hollywood Road or Jean Road to access the Scout hut.

The main gates will be kept locked and at key times, there will be a member of staff outside ready to greet you. If the gates are locked and no one is there,  please honk the horn and someone will let you in! We have a daily register and a member of staff will sign your child in. You will need to sign your child out at the end of the day. Only nominated people listed on the registration form will be allowed to collect your child.  Please inform us before if you need someone else to pick up your child.

Your child will be allocated a key person for the day, who will show them around, help them to settle in and encourage them to seek out new friends.

Obviously, we understand how daunting it might be for a younger child to attend some where new for the first time.  For this reason, you are welcome to stay for as long as you need to, in order to help your child settle in. You can also do a half day only by arrangement.

Please call the work mobile to contact us during the day 07847 709448. We advise that you add this number to your contacts so you can inform us if your child is off sick etc. or you need to collect early.
